Anthony Edwards vowed to play more aggressively in Game 3 of the Western Conference finals between his Minnesota Timberwolves and the Dallas Mavericks, and a third-quarter play demonstrated his commitment, much to the delight of fans.

At the halfway mark of the third quarter, with the Timberwolves trailing, Anthony Edwards detonated for an explosive dunk, posterizing Mavericks big man Daniel Gafford. Watch the play here:

Edwards had been underperforming in the Western Conference semifinals, leading fans to joke that he's the son of actor Michael B. Jordan rather than basketball legend Michael Jordan. However, his explosive dunk in Game 3 reignited fans' confidence in him.

Edwards has been drawing comparisons to Bulls legend Michael Jordan for his athleticism, on-court tenacity and competitiveness.

These comparisons intensified, as he averaged 27.7 points, 5.7 assists and 5.1 rebounds, helping the Timberwolves eliminate defending champions Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference semifinals.

However, his performance dipped in the Western Conference finals. In the first two games against the Mavericks, he averaged 20.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 7.5 assists, shooting a poor 33.3 percent.

Edwards finished Game 3 with 26 points on 24 shots and also had nine rebounds and nine assists. The Timberwolves lost 116-107, dropping to 0-3.

Anthony Edwards addresses Michael Jordan comparisons

Earlier this month, Anthony Edwards addressed the comparisons to Michael Jordan, saying that they aren't entirely accurate for one significant reason.

In an interview with ESPN's Malika Andrews, Edwards mentioned that he distinguishes himself from Jordan in certain aspects, most notably his long-range shooting.

"I want people to be like, 'This Anthony Edwards kid, he's got his own style. He's maybe got a mix of Michael Jordan in him,'" Edwards said. "But I've got a trey ball. I can shoot the three. So, I think that makes me a little different than Michael Jordan."

Edwards is attempting 7.4 3-pointers per game in his career, making them on a 35.3% clip. Meanwhile, Michael Jordan attempted 1.7 3-pointers per game in his career, converting 32.7%.

The rumor that Edwards is related to Jordan has long been debunked. Edwards was born to Chrisha Yvette Edwards and Roger Caruth. His father gave him the "Ant-Man" nickname.
