Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan and Detroit Pistons legend Isiah Thomas had an iconic rivalry in the 80s and 90s.

Since their retirement, the two legends have let their animosity towards each other continue to grow, as they have been publicly feuding. Jordan and Thomas’ rivalry was a major focus in Jordan’s ten-part docuseries “The Last Dance” in 2020. In the docuseries, Jordan referred to Thomas as an a**hole. Three years later, Thomas is now asking for a public apology from Jordan.

During an appearance on the “All The Smoke” podcast, Thomas explained why he believes Jordan should apologize for his comments:

“I just want some people to be honest,” Thomas said. “I got no problem sitting down, talking with anybody. I live with love, peace, truth, honesty, courage, I stand on my square. I’m upright. I’d sit in any chair, and I’d talk to anybody. But some people, they ain’t telling the truth.
“You got on national television, and you called me an a**hole, and then you said you hated me. You said that on national television. Now, if you didn’t mean it, get on national television, and apologize for it. Now, if you meant it, let it ride as it is.”

Thomas’ request for an apology from Jordan quickly led NBA fans on Twitter to have some fun with the Pistons legend. Many cracked jokes about the unlikeliness of Jordan apologizing:

“Michael Jordan will give up gambling altogether before apologizing to Isaiah Thomas. MJ'll give you good odds on that, too,” one fan said.
“Lmao now why the hell would Mike do that, he don’t care how you feel,” another added.

Here are a few more top fan reactions to Thomas’ request for an apology from Jordan:

Why did Michael Jordan call Isiah Thomas an a**hole?

As for why Michael Jordan referred to Isiah Thomas as an a**hole in The Last Dance, it had to do with how their rivalry concluded. Jordan and Thomas faced off in the playoffs for four straight years, from 1988 to 1991.

Thomas’ Detroit Pistons won the first three matchups. However, Jordan’s Bulls got redemption by sweeping the Pistons in the 1991 Eastern Conference finals. During Game 4 of that series, Thomas and the Pistons infamously walked off the court out of frustration before the final buzzer sounded. According to Jordan, that was bad sportsmanship by Detroit, and he still holds a grudge to this day:

“You can show me anything you want. It’s no way you can convince me he wasn’t an a--hole,” Jordan said about Thomas.

Given Michael Jordan’s extremely competitive nature and animosity toward Isiah Thomas, it doesn’t look like Thomas can expect an apology anytime soon.
