The USA Men's National Basketball team for the Paris Olympics boasts of some of the best NBA players of the modern era. Naturally, having a team as stacked as this one will cause people to draw comparisons between it and the 1992 'Dream Team'.

Former LA Lakers player Nick Young did just that. However, instead of comparing the sum of talents found on the two teams, he compared the type of competition that they have, on X.

Some NBA fans disagreed with Young's take, and they immediately jumped to the Dream Team's defense.

"And the Dream Team would still beat these dudes by 50," @AmicoHoops added.
"They beat South Sudan by 1 pt. What was Dream Team supposed to do besides win by 30-40 every game?" @Btwoyous asked.

On the other hand, there were a number of fans who sided with Young and agreed that this year's squad is better than the Dream Team.

"The world has gotten better in ball and they still holding these teams to the old standards, this team would dominate a lot of past NBA Olympic teams," @fiyaboifiya shared.

"Facts. 92 Dream team was hella overrated. Only those old folks who were in that era say that’s the greatest team. I disagree. Their competition was weak af. The 08,12,16,24 teams are right there with them," @GoatLee2 chimed in.
"The world overall got better at basketball but old heads aren’t ready to hear that," @pykledd said.

The 1992 Dream Team was the first Olympic squad to feature NBA players

Prior to the 1992 Olympics, NBA players were not allowed to participate in the Olympics. When this rule was changed, the USA Men's National Basketball team took full advantage by assembling one of the most loaded basketball teams ever.

It was headlined by champions like Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. They also had superstar-caliber players like David Robinson, Charles Barkley and John Stockton.

Since then, Team USA has regularly assembled squads full of remarkable NBA talents.

There was the 2008 team known as the 'Redeem Team' which had Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Dwyane Wade as the leaders. Then there was the 2012 squad that marked Kevin Durant's first Olympic appearance, wherein he got to team up with LeBron, Kobe and Melo.

When the Olympics rolls around every four years, most basketball fans are eager to hear who made the USA roster. Additionally, since the 1992 Olympics, there has been a rise in NBA-caliber talent representing others nations and they've also found some success.

Manu Ginobili and Luis Scola, while representing their home nation of Argentina in 2004, pulled off an upset to beat Team USA for the gold. Spain's Pau Gasol is a two-time silver medalist and has also brought home one bronze medal.

In fact, there are more players from the National Basketball Association playing in the Olympics this year than in 1992. To be exact, aside from the men on the Dream team, there were only nine other NBA players who participated in Olympic basketball that year.

This year, there are over 50 players who are either currently playing or have had experience playing in the NBA.
