NBA Injury Report: Anthony Davis probable, Jimmy Butler questionable, and more updates on Trae Young and De’Aaron Fox | March 3, 2023

NBA superstar Anthony Davis continues to be on the LA Lakers’ injury report. He has been upgraded to probable for Friday night’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

AD sat out in the Lakers’ 123-117 victory over the OKC Thunder two nights ago to manage his previously injured right foot. Davis, though, has missed just two of his team’s last 15 games since returning from a 5½-week absence.

The 2020 NBA champ is averaging 23.3 points, 15.3 rebounds and 3.3 blocks. LA is undoubtedly a better team when Davis is around, particularly with the absences of LeBron James and D’Angelo Russell.

Unless an unexpected setback happens during the morning shootaround, basketball fans can expect Anthony Davis to suit up Friday night.

Mo Bamba is expected to return to the bench with the anticipated return of the eight-time NBA All-Star.

Meanwhile, Jimmy Butler continues to deal with a sore right knee. He has already missed several games this season due to the same issue. The Miami Heat have listed him as questionable when they take on the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

Miami has been battling injury woes throughout the season. Butler has been a staple in the Heat’s injury report but has been available of late as he has played through pain.

Friday night’s game for the Heat will be the first of a back-to-back set. There’s a big chance Miami coach Erik Spoelstra could give him a breather in either of the two consecutive games.

Miami (33-30) is desperately trying to catch up with the Brooklyn Nets (34-28) for sixth place in the Eastern Conference. Claiming that spot would give them an outright playoff spot. Having Jimmy Butler, a six-time NBA All-Star, in the lineup will make them more competitive against the New York Knicks in MSG.

If Butler is sidelined, Caleb Martin, Duncan Robinson, and Max Strus could see their minutes go up.

Trae Young: Right groin soreness

Trae Young is dealing with right groin soreness heading into the Atlanta Hawks’ matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers. He has been listed as probable.

The former NBA All-Star looked fine in the Hawks’ 119-116 loss to the Washington Wizards on Tuesday. “Ice Trae” played 34 minutes and finished with 31 points, seven assists and two rebounds.

The Atlanta Hawks are 2-1 since the All-Star break. Trae Young is averaging 33.0 ppg, 8.0 apg and 2.7 rpg during that stretch. He is also hitting 44.3%, including 36.8% from behind the arc.

Despite the probable status, the two-time All-Star is expected to suit up Friday night for the Hawks versus Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers.

Bogdan Bogdanovic could be called by new Atlanta coach Quin Snyder to take Young’s place in the starting unit if “Ice Trae” is out.

De’Aaron Fox: Left wrist soreness; injured since Feb. 26

NBA All-Star De’Aaron Fox of the Sacramento Kings has been upgraded to questionable ahead of Friday night’s matchup with the LA Clippers. He was sidelined Tuesday when the Kings eked out a 123-117 win over the OKC Thunder.

The cat-quick point guard, however, has reportedly been practicing with the team without any issues. He is expected to take to the floor Friday night to help the "Beam Team" improve their 36-25 record, the third-best in the Western Conference.
