Steph Curry believes winning Finals MVP has slammed all criticism against him: “Oh, you don't have a Finals MVP"

After listening to critics for many years, Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors finally won a Finals MVP last season. The Golden State Warriors took down the Boston Celtics in June, and it was clear that Curry deserved the award.

It was a big weight off his shoulders as many believed that this was the last thing that he needed to accomplish in his career if he wanted to be considered one of the best players of all time. While it's somewhat questionable why people believed that Curry needed a Finals MVP for any further validation, this was surprisingly the case for arguably the greatest 3-point shooter of all time.

Stephen Curry spoke a bit about winning the Finals MVP and what it meant to him.

"The only thing about the Finals MVP this year that just made me laugh was, like, I'll never hear that question again," Curry said. "It kind of made me sad. I'll never hear that question again – 'Oh, you don't have a Finals MVP' – because now it's like, will I get another?
"It's just the goal post change, and that's year-round long enough and you're playing games that matter. That's part of it."

Stephen Curry could have two Finals MVPs

There's a good argument to be made that Stephen Curry should have won the Finals MVP during the 2015 Finals. Because of how well he played against LeBron James, many believed that he did deserve that one.

However, the award was given to Andre Iguodala as he was the primary defender against LeBron James and did a great job. Without Andre Iguodala, there's a good chance that Golden State doesn't win that series. Stephen Curry recognizes that, but also said that without him, they won't win that series, either.

"The question, 'Do I feel like I deserve it?' For sure. ... The power of the narrative, it can distract you from what the actual goal is," Curry said.
"Obviously, we're not winning the finals if I don't play the way I played. I felt like I played extremely well. We don't win the finals unless Andre plays the way he did, and that adjustment (of Iguodala serving as LeBron James' primary defender) working, him giving us such a huge boost throughout the whole series.
"We both thought we probably deserved it. I'm sure when he heard his name called, he was like, 'No, it's him.' And if it was me, it would have been the same thing. It never dawned on me that I wouldn't have another opportunity to get one, or the fact he didn't deserve it."

With all of the accolades that Stephen Curry has racked up, there should be no more debate about him being one of the top 10 players of all time. What he's been able to do at his age is something that isn't seen much in the NBA.

He still has a few more years left in his tank and will look to add to his hardware collection.
