LA Lakers coach JJ Redick started rookies Quincy Olivari and Bronny James in the backcourt against the Golden State Warriors on Friday. Olivari, an undrafted rookie on an Exhibit 10 contract, was the best Laker in the first half. The former Xavier standout had a huge impact on both ends of the court.

In 19 minutes, Olivari had 19 points on 7-for-10 shooting, including 4-of-6 from deep. He added three rebounds and one block to his totals. More importantly, he did his damage mostly against the Warriors’ starters, including defensive stalwarts Draymond Green and De’Anthony Melton. The Lakers trailed 40-66 at halftime, but it would have been much bigger without the unheralded rookie’s two-way impact.

Meanwhile, Bronny James had seven points, three rebounds, one assist and one block in 17 minutes.

After a sizzling first half, the Warriors paid more attention to Quincy Olivari in the next two quarters. Gary Payton II, Brandin Podziemski, Moses Moody and Lindy Waters III held him to three points in the second half.

Bronny James took advantage of the Dubs' increased focus on Olivary. The former USC guard added 10 points to his tally in the second half. James finished with 17 points, four rebounds, three steals, one assist and one block.

The rookie guards couldn't do much as the hosts rolled to a dominating 132-74 victory.

Explaining Quincy Olivari's Exhibit 10 contract

Quincy Olivari signed a one-year, non-guaranteed contract with the LA Lakers after the 2024 NBA draft. Per the 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), the Lakers can waive him before the start of the regular season. If this happens, he can play for the team's G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers.

Olivari can earn a bonus of $75K if he stays with the South Bay outfit for at least 60 days. The bonus becomes guaranteed if the Lakers decide to give him a two-way contract.

On the other hand, if the Lakers keep him on the roster to start the regular season, his Exhibit 10 contract becomes a minimum deal. If that happens, whatever the team is paying him will count against the Lakers' salary cap.
