Team USA fans have lashed out at the men's 3x3 basketball team after it crashed out at the pool stage of the Paris Olympics by losing to the Netherlands 21-6 in their sixth and final group game on Sunday.

There was plenty of pressure on the Americans' shoulders heading into Paris 2024, given their disappointment in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where they failed to make it out of the group stages. However, their hopes of a comeback slipped from their grasp with another early tournament exit.

The men’s Olympic campaign was hanging on a knife edge following losses to Serbia, Poland, Lithuania and Latvia. Despite victories over France and China, their tournament came to a crushing end with a blowout to the Netherlands.

It has been an underwhelming campaign from one of the country’s most-loved sports, and fans online have let them have it.

"Telling me you couldn’t send Fox Brunson Brown and Paolo. Why send these b*ms?" another wrote.
"We need @IceCube to take over operations for Team USA 3x3. This is unacceptable," a third suggested.
"We were pretty Jimmer (Fredette) dependent. did the best we could for a while. hosting the next Olympics, it will be interesting to see what we do about 3x3," another tweeted.
"That was just straight up pathetic," another U.S. fan wrote.
"I’m tryna figure out what the criteria was to make our 3x3 basketball team," another added.

All mockery aside, social media was mainly awash with people questioning the roster selection process.

USA 3x3 women's basketball team reaches semifinals of 2024 Olympic Games

The gap between the U.S. men's and women's 3x3 teams is stark. While the former continued to struggle, the latter rallied to overcome a slow start and secure a semifinal spot.

After losses to Canada, Germany and Azerbaijan to begin the Olympics, the U.S. women's team mounted a strong comeback with four consecutive wins, including 14-12 over China in a do-or-die play-in round.

Dearica Hamby led the offensive charge draining back-to-back 2-pointers, finishing with a game-high nine points, while Cierra Burdick dominated the boards with a team-high 8 rebounds and five points.

The U.S. is set to clash with Spain in a highly competitive semifinal matchup on Monday.
