Steve Kerr defiant on Golden State Warriors' prospects despite consecutive blowout losses

The Golden State Warriors appear to have hit rock bottom. This comes after the team lost its last two games to New York and Brooklyn by a combined 68 points. Following those two losses, the Warriors now sit at 15-18 and 11th in the Western Conference. However, Warriors coach Steve Kerr is still doing his best to remain optimistic.

During a recent interview with Damon and Ratto for 95.7 The Game, Kerr spoke about how the Warriors have been in a similar situation before.

"The last two nights were really, really tough. We're in the depths right now... you remember last March we lost nine of 11 games and a few months later we were celebrating the championship; so we know how to dig our way out," Kerr said.

Kerr mentioned that the Golden State Warriors were able to overcome adversity to win the championship last season. However, they currently have multiple key players injured, including superstar point guard Steph Curry. So it will likely be much more difficult for the Warriors to turn things around this season. The Warriors are just 1-6 without Curry so far, and recent reports have suggested that Curry isn’t even close to returning from his shoulder injury.

Plus, the Warriors have the worst road record in the entire league at just 3-16. This comes after they finished 22-19 on the road last season. So Golden State’s inability to win away from home should be a major concern for Warriors fans.

Following their recent 1-5 road trip, the Warriors will now play eight straight games at home, where they have the third-best home record at 12-2. However, their eight-game homestand will include games against competitive teams like Memphis, Utah, Portland, Atlanta, and Phoenix. So things could get worse before they get better at Golden State.

The lone bright spot in the Golden State Warriors’ 143-113 blowout loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday was third-year center James Wiseman. Wiseman received extended playing time with a season-high 28 minutes in the game. He finished with a career-high 30 points to go along with six rebounds on 12-for-14 (85.7%) shooting.

During his same interview with Damon and Ratto for 95.7 The Game, Steve Kerr spoke about what Wiseman's performance meant in regards to his development.

"We're just watching his development... We feel like he's made strides, so it was great for him to let loose and gain some confidence,” Kerr said.
"We know he's capable of scoring. He's got a great touch around the basket and he's so athletic and long that anything close to the rim he's dunking. We know he has that capability... I thought it was a great night for him to really feel good about his progress. This is just another step in the journey for James,” Kerr continued.

Wiseman has had a rough season for Golden State and has spent a considerable amount of time in the G League. Many have even called him a liability when he has been on the court for the Warriors.

Following his big game, Wiseman is averaging 7.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game on 61.8% shooting. He played just 13.5 minutes per game.

If Wiseman can continue to develop and become a reliable rotation piece for Golden State, that should only help them get back on track.
