James Wiseman Early Life


James Wiseman was born to an African American family on March 31, 2001. He grew up in his hometown Nashville, Tennessee. James found basketball interesting and started loving the game during his early years. He joined The Ensworth School to play his freshman season and then moved to Memphis East High School. Former NBA player Penny Hardaway coached him there during James’ first year.


In 2019, Wiseman joined the University of Memphis to play basketball for the Memphis Tigers. He played only three games for the university and then declared for the 2020 NBA draft. During his national team career, James helped the US national team to clinch the gold medal against Canada at the 2017 FIBA U16 Americas Championship. However, Wiseman was unable to join his national team for the 2018 FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup due to injury.

National Team Career


Before showcasing his skills in the NBA, James Wiseman also has been a part of the United States national basketball team. He represented his team in the 2017 FIBA U16 Americas Championship held in Formosa, Argentina. James averaged 11.4 points and 5 rebounds each game. He helped his team grab a gold medal in a win against Canada. However, Wiseman missed the opportunity to join his national team for the 2018 FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup following an injury.

Golden State Warriors


James Wiseman got a chance to play in the National Basketball Association in 2020. He was traded to the Golden State Warriors in the second overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft. He played his debut NBA game against the Brooklyn Nets on December 22, 2020 and posted 19 points, 2 steals and 6 rebounds. He scored a season-high 25 points and 6 rebounds on January 27, 2021 in a victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves. On April 11, he experienced a torn right meniscus and underwent a successful surgery. It led him to stay out for the remainder of the season.


Meanwhile, James joined the Santa Cruz Warriors on March 9, 202. It is Golden State’s NBA G League affiliate team.
