The Golden State Warriors were involved in a four-team trade earlier this week. The Dubs finally sent James Wiseman to another team, but there is a chance that the trade will be called off.

Before trades are finalized, each player has to go through a physical examination. However, Gary Payton II, a player who was sent to the Warriors through the trade, failed his physical.

The California team can call off the entire trade due to this. If this happens, Wiseman will return to the Dubs and no other pieces will be moved.

Golden State Warriors can call off the entire 4-team trade

Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Warriors have until Sunday, 9:30 Eastern Time, to decide what to do with the trade. If they decide to fail Payton II on his physical, the entire trade will be called off.

Considering that the NBA trade deadline has passed, the Warriors won't be able to make more trades this season. However, they will be able to acquire another guard in the buyout market.

If the Golden State Warriors decide to go through with the trade, they will not be able to use the defensive-minded guard for a few months. The physical showed that the player has injury problems and is not 100% healthy.

Payton II has appeared in only 15 games so far in the 2022-23 season. He dealt with an abdominal injury and made his season debut in early January 2023 due to it. However, it doesn't appear that he's fully recovered yet.

Considering that the Warriors are very close to falling out of the playoff picture, they want to use Payton II right away. Unfortunately, his injury will keep him sidelined and he won't be able to contribute.

The Dubs may still go through with the trade. While they won't be able to use the 6-foot-3 guard in games, their luxury tax bill will be much lower.

The 4-team trade that may be called off

Besides Gary Payton II, the Golden State Warriors also received two second-round picks from the Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks, on the other hand, received Saddiq Bey from the Detroit Pistons.

The Warriors sent James Wiseman to Detroit, while the Portland Trail Blazers received Kevin Knox and five second-round picks.

The fate of the trade is in Golden State's hands and it will be interesting to see what they decide.

If the trade falls apart, all four traded players will return to their original teams, including James Wiseman. No team wants this to happen, but considering that the Warriors are at a disadvantage, they will decide what to do.
