"Tatum is supposed to be the guy?!" - NBA fans come together to roast Boston Celtics as they suffer embarrassing loss to Rockets

The Boston Celtics just suffered an embarrassing loss to the Houston Rockets, who improved their Western Conference-worst record of 16-52. Boston All-Star game MVP Jayson Tatum missed a potential game-tying layup as the final buzzer sounded.

Fans quickly sent in their thoughts following the Celtics’ humiliating loss to the lowly Rockets.

"Tatum is supposed to be the guy?!"

Tatum was criticized for what looked like a miss from a point-blank shot off the glass. Why Joe Mazzulla gave him the last shot when Jaylen Brown was hot is something that the head coach may explain later in the post-game conference.

Brown had 17 points in the fourth period while the rest of the Celtics combined for just 12. The Celtics could have gone to him as he had proven to be Boston’s best player during the game.

The Celtics, after owning the NBA’s best record for the entire season, have been slipping since late January. They had a 35-12 win-loss card when they beat the Toronto Raptors 106-104 last Jan. 21.

Boston has gone just 12-10 since that win over the Raptors and has allowed the Milwaukee Bucks to overtake them in the standings. The Celtics are now just one game ahead of the Philadelphia 76ers (45-22) for the second seed in the Eastern Conference.

The Boston Celtics could still fall out of the top four in the Eastern Conference

The Boston Celtics have one of the toughest remaining schedules in the NBA.

Last season, the Boston Celtics finished second in the Eastern Conference standings with a 51-31 record. They had the same win-loss slate as the third-seeded Milwaukee Bucks, but won the tiebreak.

Boston's incredible second half of the 2021-22 season pushed them near the top of their conference. The Celtics were 23-24 after losing 109-105 to the Portland Trail Blazers on January 22, 2022.

The Cs ended their regular-season campaign on Apr. 11 with a 139-110 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. They lost just seven games during the said stretch.

Since the All-Star break this year, the Boston Celtics have gone just 5-5 over their last 10 games. With the way they have been playing, they could still drop out of the top four in the east.

It would be an embarrassing turn of events after looking like the best team in the NBA for most of the season.

Boston still has 13 games left. The San Antonio Spurs may be the only team that's not trying to grab a playoff spot in their remaining schedule. Their opponents include the Toronto Raptors twice, the Milwaukee Bucks, the Philadelphia 76ers, the Sacramento Kings and the Minnesota Timberwolves.

On top of that, the Boston Celtics will also have to play 7-13 games outside of TD Garden. If they are not careful, they could easily slip out of the top four and lose home-court advantage in the first-round of the playoffs.
