Team USA rounded off their 2024 Paris Olympics group stage games against minnows Puerto Rico on Saturday. The USA was expected to win this one, but a lopsided first quarter made their lives difficult. Puerto Rico took a 12-6 lead early, which the Americans recovered from.

The North American nation restored a lead 25-17 advantage, taking the game's biggest lead. USA nearly finished with a six-point deficit after the end of the first quarter before a buzzer-beating Anthony Edwards layup ended the frame 29-25 in Puerto Rico's favor.

USA were out-shot 4-1 from 3-point range in the first 10 minutes. They weren't as sharp in executing their plays from the beginning, leading to the first-quarter deficit.

The second quarter was a solid back-and-forth between the teams as USA restored the lead. However, Puerto Rico didn't back down. They kept the Americans on their toes, maintaining their shooting averages and defensive intensity. The same couldn't be said for the USA, though. The lack of discipline gave their counterparts the opening they needed to keep the deficit small.

Nevertheless, a 16-2 run with three minutes left entirely changed the landscape of the game in favor of the USA. The first half ended 64-45 in LeBron James and Co.'s favor.

The third and fourth quarters were complete blowouts for the USA. They didn't lift their foot off the gas, maintaining a lead of 25+ points for most of the second half. The Americans outscored Puerto Rico 48-31 in the final 20 minutes to wrap up the game.

Anthony Edwards was the key architect in keeping that intensity up. He dropped 26 points on 11-of-15 shooting to anchor the second-half dominance.

Meanwhile, Jayson Tatum finished with a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double, while four others finished with 10+ points. The USA finished the group stage with a 3-0 record en route to the quarter-finals.

USA dropped 100+ points in their third consecutive game, winning the contest 104-83.
