Stephen A. Smith shared how his basketball career got cut short by an injury

Stephen A. Smith never got to play basketball professionally and a huge reason for this was an injury he sustained. In August 2023, the "First Take" host went on Paul George's podcast, "Podcast P," where he talked about getting hurt in college.

Initially, Stephen A. was asked if he received a basketball scholarship. He confirmed this by saying that he indeed had one from Winston-Salem State University.

However, he cracked his kneecap during his freshman year. This led to him missing an entire semester because he had to go home for treatment. Although, according to him, he did not give up on playing basketball immediately.

He said that once he was done rehabbing, he came back and made the team. But his knee would just buckle and he could not move without a limp. At the time the episode was released back in 2023, he shared that there was still a screw in his knee.
