“There's real question whether [AD] would play a back-to-back” – Adrian Wojnarowski questions Anthony Davis’ availability ahead of crucial game

Anthony Davis, the Los Angeles Lakers' big man, may not be able to play in the team's upcoming game against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Davis missed the Lakers' game against the Houston Rockets on March 15 due to a right foot stress injury. Injuries have caused him to miss 26 out of a possible 79 games this season. The Lakers are set to face the Clippers on Wednesday, but James and Davis' availability is uncertain due to their recent heavy workload. The Lakers' medical staff has been cautious with Davis since his return.

Speaking on ESPN’s Get Up, Adrian Wojnarowski cast further doubt on whether Anthony Davis will play against the Clippers.

“It’s gonna be difficult especially for Anthony Davis. He played 42 minutes last night, the most he has played since he has come back from that right foot injury. He is gonna talk to the chief doctors this morning but there is a real question whether he could play a back-to-back. You could blame the hard-playing Jazz team that dragged the Lakers to overtime, last night. Anthony Davis, he will talk again to the chief doctor today. But they have been very careful with him.”

He added:

“They do not want to re-aggravate the right foot injury. This is a significant game, against the Clippers tonight. Essentially the 6th seed is on the line. LeBron James has said that he will see how he feels when he wakes up but I am told, D’Angelo Russell being back in the Lakers lineup today. But, throughout Anthony Davis’s return, he has not played in back-to-backs. There have been three of them. He has not played in any of the three.”

The LA Lakers’ recent form has allowed them to elevate themselves from the play-in fight to a possible high seed. The sixth seed is potentially up for grabs, and the Lakers will be looking at the Golden State Warriors, who are perched at fifth with keen interest. They still need to churn out victories and have found it difficult to do so without LeBron James and Davis.

Despite Davis missing so many games, he has had an impressive individual season with averages of 26.5 points, 12.4 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks. After the victory against the Jazz, Darvin Ham said that no decision had been made on James, Davis, or D'Angelo Russell as far as the Clippers game was concerned.

LeBron James is expected to make a decision before the game while Anthony Davis was not too optimistic about his chances:

“I haven’t played a back-to-back [sets] in a long time and then I just played 42 minutes. It’s the most I’ve played since I’ve been back. We’ll all get on a phone call or something tomorrow and go from there," Davis said.
