NBA analyst asserts LeBron James should be traded to save Lakers’ season: “They’re awful, now LeBron’s out, it’s gonna get worse!”

The LA Lakers find themselves in a tough position. With only two wins on the season, some are starting to believe that LeBron James being traded could help the organization.

Los Angeles has arguably the best player in the world and Anthony Davis, but still can't compete. If the Lakers decided to trade LeBron James, it could set the team up for success in the future.

As the NBA has seen with the Utah Jazz, teams can play well even if they trade their top players. Utah moved Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell in a pair of shocking deals this sumer. Trading James would not be an easy choice, but at what point would Los Angeles pull the trigger?

Analyst Doug Gottlieb thinks LeBron should be traded:

"Then you got LeBron, he got hurt again. Now, who could have seen this coming? Who could have seen it coming? Everybody. Everybody. What I told you before the season started is that I don't think the Lakers are particularly good. I don't love their roster, and that's with LeBron James playing and with Anthony Davis playing, and they're both injury-prone.
"LeBron James is long in the tooth and so the likelihood is of more injuries. And you will go like, 'Well, LeBron James wasn't hurt the first 15 years, 16 years of his career.' Got it, now he's 39 (James turns 38 on Dec. 30). He's been hurt every year he's been a Laker.
"No one has ever woken up 39 years old and said I feel better than I did when I was 28. Nope, doesn't happen. You don't get less injured; you get more injured. It happens more often so it shouldn't be a surprise. ... And now LeBron might be out a certain period of time. ... Only one solution, was to trade LeBron."

Due to the lack of talent outside of James and a few others, the Lakers (2-9) have struggled. Gottlieb's suggestion that James should be traded isn't the first time that someone has proposed the idea.

James was promised to be given a team around him that would succeed. Unfortunately, the Lakers haven't been able to do that this season. Their two wins of the year are evidence of their lack of talent.

"When four-time MVP LeBron James agreed to a two-year, $97.1 million extension in August, the Los Angeles Lakers made a promise to supply him with the necessary pieces to compete for a championship throughout the duration of his tenure," Chris Haynes reported.

LeBron James' injury

LeBron James was injured during the Lakers' 114-101 loss against the LA Clippers. It's reported that he will miss at least two games.

"I didn't do anything extraneous on the play," James said of the sequence when he appeared to tweak something something while posting up the Clippers' Paul George. "Just when I landed, I felt a little spasm or strain in my groin. So, immediately I had to come out after that on the next play down when I went to the free-throw line."
