Rudy Gobert is a French professional basketball player who plays as a center for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA. He is currently playing his 9th season and has been a three-time NBA All-Star. He was selected by the Denver Nuggets with 27 overall choices in the 2013 NBA Draft and was traded to the Utah Jazz on draft night. The nickname "The Stifle Tower, is regarded as one of the top rim protectors in the NBA.

Early Life


Gobert first began playing basketball for the JSC St-Quentin club in 2003, and he later switched to the Saint-Quentin BB team. He began practicing with Cholet Basket's cadet divisions in 2007, and in 2010, he competed with the French under-18 national team in the FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship, where he finished as the team's top scorer and rebounder. In 2011 Gobert started playing for Cholet's junior team and In the 2011–12 season, Gobert averaged by scoring 4.2 points and grabbed 3.6 rebounds per game for Cholet. Then, the Denver Nuggets selected Gobert with the 27th overall choice in the 2013 NBA Draft, but on draft night, he was traded to the Utah Jazz. Later, in the 2022 offseason, he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

During the 2011-12 season In 29 games for Cholet he scored 4.2 points and grabbed 3.6 rebounds each. He has also participated in NBA Development League games with the Bakersfield Jam. He recorded two 20-point performances in 2015, setting career highs, and concluded the 2014–15 campaign with 25 double-doubles. He was in third place in the voting for the NBA Most Improved Player Award in 2015. At the 2014 World Cup and the 2015 EuroBasket, Gobert won bronze medals while competing for France internationally. He also took home bronze and silver medals from the 2011 and 2012 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championships, respectively.


Gobert averaged 15.7 points and pulled down 14.6 rebounds per contest in the 2019–20 season. Thus, becoming a reserve in the western conference NBA All-Star for the year 2020. In the season 2020-21 he again became the NBA defensive player of the year for the third time in four years. With an FG percentage of 71.3%, Gobert leads the league and was chosen to the NBA All-Defensive First Team for the sixth time in a row. In 2022 Gobert was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves and Gobert scored 23 points and pulled out 16 rebounds against the Oklahoma city thunder in his debut.
