“Tanking? It’s a weird strategy," Wembanyama said. "I find it unreasonable, and I try not to think about it. I also heard that the NBA considered changing a few rules for me, but that doesn’t concern me.”

The teams with the worst records will have the highest odds of drafting Wembanyama, with Scoot Henderson considered an impressive consolation prize.

Currently, the Orlando Magic (13-23), Charlotte Hornets (9-26) and Detroit Pistons (9-28) are at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. The LA Lakers (14-21), San Antonio Spurs (11-23) and Houston Rockets (10-24) bring up the rear in the Western Conference.

The Lakers, however, do not control their pick. Because of the 2019 trade for Anthony Davis, the New Orleans Pelicans (22-12), who lead the West, can swap first-round picks with the Lakers.
