In his first run in the Olympics, Victor Wembanyama finds himself with a chance to lead France to the gold medal game. They took the floor Thursday in the semifinals, facing off against a tough opponent in Germany.

The two teams faced off in the group phase, with Germany winning by double-digits. However, Wembanyama was one of the few players to have success against them. The reigning NBA Rookie of the Year finished with a double-double (14 points, 11 rebounds).

In their second meeting with Germany at the 2024 Olympics, Victor Wembanyama started slow but found his stride. He played 31 minutes in the semifinals and posted 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three blocks.

It was far from an efficient outing for Wembanyama, shooting 4-for-17 from the field. Most of his struggles came from beyond the arc, where he went 1-for-8.

Securing gold won't be easy for France, as it has two tough potential opponents in front of them. Team USA is led by an array of stars like LeBron James and Kevin Durant. Meanwhile, Serbia also has multiple NBA players, including three-time MVP Nikola Jokic.

In his first run for France in the Olympics, Wembanyama has done a little bit of everything. Heading into Thursday's matchup, he averages 14.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.8 steals and 1.8 blocks.

France survived against Germany, but if they want to win gold, they will need a strong outing from Wembanyama in its next matchup.
