France Men's Basketball National Team Bio

France currently holds the number 5 ranking according to FIBA rankings. As one of the highest-rated teams in the FIBA World Cup, they have lofty expectations. Recently, they finished second in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and that has left a sour taste in their mouths. Coach Vincent Collet is sure to gear his troops and keep them motivated. The FIBA World Cup will be taking place in multiple countries for the first time — taking place in the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia from August 25 to September 10. France is placed in Group H along with Latvia, Lebanon, and Canada. France’s FIBA World Cup campaign will begin on August 25th against Canada.


History

France’s national basketball team has a rich history and is currently one of the highest-ranked teams in the World. They are the 2nd best team in Europe behind Spain, who are ranked number one in the world. They have been a regular at major basketball tournaments for a long time now. Their first appearance at an international level tournament was in 1935 when they played in EuroBasket. Immediately the next year, they played in the 1936 Olympics, finishing 19th, and then in the 1948 Olympics, won the silver medal. They have been a regular at the FIBA World Cup, participating since the tournament began. Expect for a few years in between where they did not qualify, France has been a part of the FIBA World Cup for the majority of the tournament's existence.

Tony Parker: Tony Parker is possibly the greatest player to ever come from a French origin. A Spurs legend, winning four championships and a finals MVP, Tony Parker also has a legendary national career winning the EuroBasket MVP in 2013 and being named to the EuroBasket All-Tournament team thrice, 2003, 2011, and 2013.


Rudy Gobert: Rudy Gobert is one of the greatest defensive players ever to play the game of basketball. A recipient of the Defensive Player of the Year thrice, Gobert has cemented himself in French lore as one of the greatest players to come from French origin. He was a part of the silver medal-winning team in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
