Victor Wembanyama and France have improved their level of performance progressively
Even though France won two games in the group stage, it wasn't convincing, especially after Germany dominated them 85-71 in the third game. The host team left this round with more doubts than certainties, which put them in a complex position in the next two duels.
First, Canada looked like clear favorites after dominating its group with a 3-0 record. However, the 'Les Bleus' changed its mindset and played a physical game, beating the Canucks 82-73.
Despite this good performance, the team still wasn't considered favorites in their rematch against Germany. They seemed to take this personally and played physically again, keeping Germany on a short leash after losing the first quarter by 25-18. The French were on a mission before getting the 73-69 win to advance to the final game, proving that they are a serious threat.
Now, with two major wins against tournament favorites and playing in front of their home crowd, the French players have a shot at winning the gold medal this Saturday.
