On the last day of Black History month, Draymond Green sparked an online debate following the Golden State Warriors' comeback win over the Portland Trail Blazers. Green suggested that the United States should get rid of Black History month.
In a postgame news conference, Green explained why he does not want a month dedicated to Black history. The former Defensive Player of the Year wants it taught throughout the year.
"We've got governors who want to take our history out of schools, and I'm not going to be the fool to say, 'Yeah, we can celebrate it for 28 days,'" Green said. "So at some point, I'd like to get rid of it. We're making all these changes in the world. Can't talk about these people, can't talk about those people, can’t say this, can't say that.
"At some point, it’s time to get rid of Black History Month. Not get rid of Black history, like they're trying to do. But Black History Month? No, teach my history from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, and then do it again. And then again, and then again, and then again."
Draymond Green alluded to Florida governor Ron DeSantis preventing a new national high school advanced placement course in African American studies in January. DeSantis also introduced the "Stop Woke Act" to prevent any lessons on race and diversity.
According to the Association of Local Colleges and Universities, there have been more than 30 state legislatures across the country that pulled books about race history written by black authors. It's a very concerning issue at the moment, especially for African Americans.
Draymond Green returns against Blazers, helps Warriors earn comeback win
After missing two games due to a right knee contusion, Draymond Green made his return on Tuesday (Mar. 1) against the Portland Trail Blazers. It was an important game for the Golden State Warriors, considering the tight race for playoff spots in the Western Conference.
Green ended the game with 12 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. The Warriors were down big in the first half but used their daunted third quarter runs to make a comeback. Golden State eventually blew out the Blazers in the final period to win 123-105.
Jordan Poole contributed 29 points, five rebounds and six assists, while Klay Thompson added 23 points, eight rebounds and four assists. The win improved the Warriors' record to 32-30, and they're now fifth in the Western Conference.
Meanwhile, Damian Lillard cooled off following his 71-point performance on Sunday (Feb. 26). Lillard had only 25 points in the loss, while Jerami Grant ended with 24 points, five rebounds and three assists.
