The 2024 NBA All-Star Game is set to take place in Indianapolis, Indiana. After almost 40 years, the NBA All-Star Weekend will be back at the home of the Indiana Pacers. It will also be the third All-Star Game in the state since Fort Wayne hosted the event in 1953.
According to NBA.com, the 2021 All-Star Game was supposed to be in Indianapolis, but the COVID-19 pandemic prevented that from happening. The NCAA Tournament was also held in the city that year, which conflicted with the league's mid-season event.
"While we are disappointed that the NBA All-Star Game will not take place in Indianapolis in 2021, we are looking forward to the Pacers and the city hosting the game and surrounding events in 2024," NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement.
Silver continued:
"I want to thank Herb Simon, Steve Simon, Rick Fuson and the entire Pacers organization as well as the NBA All-Star 2021 Host Committee and the community of Indianapolis for working with us to reschedule our All-Star activities."
The 2024 NBA All-Star Game is scheduled for Feb. 18 at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Other events such as the All-Star Celebrity Game and practices will be held at the Indiana Convention Center.
As usual, the All-Star Weekend will be three days long, starting on Feb. 16, 2024. The All-Star Celebrity Game and Rising Stars Challenge are always done every Friday, while All-Star Saturday Night hosts the Skills Challenge, 3-Point Contest and Slam Dunk Competition.
Sunday hosts the big event, which is the All-Star Game. It remains to be seen if the NBA will continue with its current format of having team captains and drafting their roster.
Indiana Pacers ready to host 2024 NBA All-Star Game
In preparation for hosting the 2024 NBA All-Star Game, Danny Lopez of Pacers Sports and Entertainment visited Salt Lake City for this year's All-Star Weekend. Lopez observed how the Utah Jazz handled the event and will see what they can do to make it even better next year.
Lopez told Samantha Johnson of 13WTHR that they already have around 400 volunteers to help make next year's All-Star Weekend great. He also revealed that they want to showcase the Indiana Pacers and the city of Indianapolis to the world.
"For that weekend, we expect to have more than 1,800 members of the media here, many of them from all over the world," Lopez said. "That's because the game has grown so much internationally."
