In 2017, there were reports that Beyonce wanted to own an NBA franchise. This could have something to do with her husband Jay-Z formerly owning a small portion of the Brooklyn Nets at one point. Regardless of her reasons, the iconic singer is a huge basketball fan herself. She particularly supports her hometown team, the Houston Rockets.

According to Bleacher Report, there was a time when Beyonce expressed interest in partnering with an ownership group to bid for the Houston Rockets. Former Rockets owner Leslie Alexander put the franchise up for grabs in 2017. Naturally, the magnitude of buying a basketball team can easily entice the biggest and richest personalities on the planet. The pop star was one of them.

Ultimately, Beyonce never owned the Rockets, not even a small portion of it. A few sources have suggested that she has invested in other teams, however, there aren't any concrete pieces of evidence to prove it.

Iconic personalities who own NBA teams

News of basketball legends, musicians, actors, and a bunch of other iconic personalities partially owning an NBA team is nothing new. While Jay-Z is no longer a part of that special group and his wife Beyonce never became a part of it, there are still those who maintained their stake in a basketball franchise. Here are a couple of the most notable names.

Michael Jordan (Majority owner of the Charlotte Hornets)

Back in 2010, arguably the GOAT of basketball, Michael Jordan purchased the Charlotte Hornets for $275 million. He had two reasons for doing so. He's always had the goal of becoming the majority owner of an NBA franchise during his post-playing career. Jordan bought Charlotte because he wanted to build an elite team in his home state of North Carolina.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith (Partial owners of the Philadelphia 76ers)

Once upon a time, Will Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, reportedly became the majority owners of the Philadelphia 76ers. Apparently, it was all fake news and it never happened. However, it's true that the Smiths own a portion of the Sixers. According to the Washington Post, the power couple became part of the team's ownership group in 2011.
