Demetress Bell is the son of Karl Malone and Gloria Bell. The legendary Utah Jazz player impregnated Bell when she was only 13 years old while he was a sophomore at Louisiana Tech. Malone refused to acknowledge his son until years after he retired from the NBA.

Malone and Bell reportedly first met in 2008 when “Mechie” was drafted by the Buffalo Bills out of Northwestern State. He was picked by the Bills in the seventh round of the said draft as a left tackle.

Bell’s career in the NFL wasn’t nearly as great as that of Malone’s Hall of Fame basketball career. Buffalo made him a starter on almost every occasion his number was called. In his three-year career with the Bills, he played 31 games, starting in 30 of them.

Bell, however, wasn’t able to match the Eagles’ expectations that he would be demoted to the bench after three games. King Dunlap took over the starting left tackle position for Philly whenever he’s available.

Only the first of Demetress Bell's five-year deal was guaranteed. He was released by the Eagles roughly a year after making such a promising promise to his career.

Philadelphia missed the playoffs in Bell’s stay there. They made it to the Wild Card in 2013 with Jason Peters back to his usual left tackle post that Bell couldn’t hold on to.

The former Northwestern State standout hasn’t played an NFL game since his short-lived stint with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Demetress Bell had to go through intense media scrutiny in the days leading up to and during the 2008 NFL Draft. His past, particularly those concerning his estranged father, was bound to come up.

By then, it was already known that Bell and Karl Malone weren’t on speaking terms. Gloria Bell was impregnated by Malone when he was a second-year basketball star at Louisiana Tech. The then Utah Jazz power forward refused to acknowledge “Mechie” until 2014.

Demetress Bell didn’t know the identity of his father until high school when his mother’s parents filed a paternity suit against Malone. The case was settled off-court after both parties agreed to an undisclosed amount.

He met Karl Malone in 2008 and was supposedly told that it was “too late” for their relationship to start.

An ESPN report in 2008 quoted Bell as saying that he looked at his situation with Karl Malone as his mother going to the “sperm bank.” Bell’s athleticism was apparent as he was a basketball and football star in high school.

He eventually decided to give up the sport Karl Malone was famous for to pursue football glory. It was only in 2014 that both started mending their relationship.

"The Mailman" and Bell are now reportedly communicating regularly. They have hunted together on numerous occasions. Bell’s kids adore Malone.
