Why is LeBron James not playing tonight against the Milwaukee Bucks | February 9, 2023

LeBron James is fresh off becoming the NBA's all-time leading scorer. James broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's record on Tuesday (February 6) against the OKC Thunder. However, "The King" was listed out for today's matchup with Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks.

James didn't suit up for Thursday's game due to left ankle soreness. The injury has been bothering him for most of the season. With all the effort and minutes played in his chase for the scoring record, James could use the rest as the LA Lakers pursue a postseason berth.

The Lakers were fairly active at the trade deadline, acquiring several players that might help the team. However, James is still the most important player and a lingering injury won't be the best thing.

LeBron James has been bothered by a sore left ankle for several months now. He has only missed a few games this season as the team continues to manage the injury. But when did he suffer it?

James sprained his left ankle on November 28 against the Indiana Pacers when he accidentally stepped on Tyrese Haliburton's foot in the first quarter. He was able to play the entire game, finishing with 21 points, seven rebounds and three assists in the LA Lakers' 116-115 loss.

"The King" didn't miss a game after the injury scare, but appeared to re-injure the left ankle four days later. In the Lakers' 133-129 win against the Milwaukee Bucks, Khris Middleton rolled on James' ankle during a play in the fourth quarter. He also played through the injury and contributed 28 points, eight rebounds and 11 assists.

LA Lakers active at trade deadline

LeBron James might be very happy with how Rob Pelinka and the LA Lakers front office were active at the trade deadline. Pelinka managed to get younger and find more suitable players for their chase of a playoff spot.

While the Rui Hachimura deal was well-received, the front office did a wonderful job in the past 24 hours. They turned Russell Westbrook into D'Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt and Malik Beasley.

The Lakers also acquired Davon Reed from the Denver Nuggets for Thomas Bryant, while Patrick Beverley was flipped to the Orlando Magic for Mo Bamba. They could be considered among the winners of the trade deadline, but it would be interesting to see if the new roster will fit together.
