Olden Polynice has called out NBA players for skipping games after getting injured. Polynice wants players to develop pain tolerance to avoid future injuries. He also bragged about being one of the best rebounders in the 1993 season while playing with a broken hand.

The former lottery pick sent out a message to the current generation of players in a tweet.

"Attention ALL @NBA players: The more you sit and skip games etc after getting hurt or injured THE MORE YOU WILL CONTINUE TO GET HURT OR INJURED," Polynice wrote. "You have to build up pain tolerance. It’s ridiculous watching you guys sit for BS. I finished 2nd in rebs w a broken 🤚 in 93."

Back in the day, players often played through serious injuries. Kevin McHale played through a broken foot in 1987, while Larry Bird had back problems from the 1985 season until his retirement.

It should also be noted that Olden Polynice was not second in rebounding back in the 1993-94 NBA season. He averaged 11.9 rebounds per game, which was tied for fourth place with Hakeem Olajuwon. The top three rebounders of that season were Dennis Rodman, Shaquille O'Neal and Kevin Willis.

Nevertheless, the game has changed since then. Players take care of their bodies much better, but injuries are hard to prevent.

Too many injuries early in the 2022-23 NBA season

The 2022-23 NBA season has been unpredictable, with the reigning champions, the Golden State Warriors, hovering around a .500 record and the Utah Jazz looking like playoff contenders. The Boston Celtics are managing to play great without Ime Udoka, while Giannis Antetokounmpo and Luka Doncic are playing like MVPs.

However, injuries are still rampant around the NBA. LeBron James recently missed five straight games due to an adductor strain, while the Philadelphia 76ers were ravaged by injuries. James Harden and Tyrese Maxey are out due to foot injuries, and Joel Embiid has just recovered from a minor foot injury.

Paul George and Kawhi Leonard have also been dealing with injuries this season, and Damian Lillard already had two calf strains in the span of a month. Karl-Anthony Towns was just diagnosed with a right calf strain and is out for six to eight weeks.

LaMelo Ball has only played three games due to ankle injuries. Chris Paul is still recovering from a heel contusion and has missed 11 straight games as of this writing.

Teams are more protective of their players now than ever before. Injuries can be frustrating, but the health of players is the most important thing, especially for teams looking to make deep playoff runs.
