The New York Knicks are reportedly considering a significant trade with the Philadelphia 76ers centered around Joel Embiid.
Sources indicate that the Knicks are willing to package a deal involving a mix of All-Star players along with several first-round picks to land the Cameroonian center.
According to Sixers beat writer Keith Pompey, the Knicks are putting players Julius Randle, R.J. Barrett, Evan Fournier and Mitchell Robinson on the trading block.
"The New York Knicks are willing to offer a package that includes three key players, with Julius Randle, R.J. Barrett, Evan Fournier and Mitchell Robinson all available in exchange for Joel Embiid, according to sources. A trio from that group would be paired with two or three first-round picks," posted Pompey on the social media platform X.
The reigning NBA MVP has also been reported that he would love to stay in Philadelphia, but he wants to stay away from the James Harden issue that's deemed to have an ugly end.
Joel Embiid last season had a career-high average of points per game at 33.1. He also provided the Sixers with 10.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.7 blocks and a steal per night.
Joel Embiid hints on impending trade request
Entering the 2023-24 NBA season, the Philadelphia 76ers have been the subject of controversy after James Harden requested to be traded.
As the training camp added more drama, Joel Embiid showed his frustration that he wanted to win a championship very soon, whether it would be in Philadelphia or another NBA team.
"If every year is going to be the same thing, that doesn't put you closer to winning a championship. That gets frustrating. But I also believe it doesn't matter who's on the team, I'm always going to have a chance to win.
"I just wanna win a championship, whatever it takes. I don’t know where that’s gonna be, whether that’s in Philly or anywhere else," said Embiid during the Sixers media day.
The Philadelphia 76ers will open the season on the road on Thursday, Oct. 26, with championship contenders Milwaukee Bucks.
As opening day looms, there's still no indication that James Harden will be suiting up anytime soon for the Sixers.
