Waived by the Sacramento Kings

After making waves midway through the off-season by signing with the NBA franchise Sacramento Kings, Canadian born Indian origin center Sim Bhullar was waived by the team according to the Kings General Manager Pete Alessandro. Two other players in guard Deonte Burton and forward David Wear were also waived on October 19th, Sunday leaving the Kings roster at 15 at the moment.

The 7 feet 5 inches giant set foot on the floor in only two games in the pre-season totalling two points (1-1 FG) and three rebounds in three minutes off the bench. The 360 pounder went undrafted in the league before signing with the Kings as a free agent. Prior to the draft, Bhullar had also worked out for the Toronto Raptors, but things did not materialize.

So close yet so far

Bhullar had an impressive college career at New Mexico State University before declaring himself for the Draft. In his two years at college, he averaged 10.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.9 blocks. He was also the MVP of the Western Athletic Conference tournament after leading the Aggies to the championship last season.

Despite going undrafted at the NBA Draft in June, Bhullar broke one record each over the next couple of months. In July, during the NBA’s annual Summer League he was called upon to join the Kings Summer League roster. In August, he signed a contract with the Kings making him the first Indian origin ever to sign a contract with the NBA franchise.

The contract gave Bhullar a free pass to the team’s training camp roster. However, he couldn’t make it into the team for the regular season due to lack of chances to prove himself in the pre-season. His conditioning is also a factor in him being a denied a spot on the team. According to sources, Bhullar will now play for Reno Bighorns, the D-League affiliate of the Kings.
