#2. 1987-88, 35 points per game

Having played in all 82 games of the regular season, Michael Jordan averaged 35 points, 5.9 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game that campaign. He shot over 53% from the field and over 84% from the free throw line.

Jordan's best performance of the regular season came in a win against the Detroit Pistons, as MJ dropped 59 points on nearly 78% shooting from the field.

Unfortunately, the Chicago Bulls exited the playoffs after being knocked out by the Detroit Pistons in the second round. That was after beating the Cleveland Cavaliers in five games, including a 55-points Game 2 win in Chicago. However, MJ won the first of his five MVP awards this season.

#1. 1986-87, 37.1 points per game

Michael Jordan's 1986-87 season was the sixth highest points per game season in the history of the NBA. MJ averaged 37.1 points, 4.6 assists, and 5.2 rebounds while shooting over 48% from the field and over 85% from the free throw line.

One of his best performances of the regular season came against the New York Knicks in the season opener, where he dropped 50 points on better than 48% shooting from the field.

Yet, the Chicago Bulls were eliminated in the first round by the Boston Celtics in three games, despite Michael Jordan dropping 42 points in Game 2 on 48% shooting from the field.

It was a disappointing end to what was a remarkable season for Jordan as the NBA was in awe of this remarkable kid from North Carolina.
