The University of Alabama's Crimson Tide football team participates in FBS, NCAA and SEC events. As of April 2024, the team's head coach is Kalen DeBoer in his first season. Prior to him, the head coach for 16 years was Nick Saban, under whom the Crimson Tide won six national championships. Further, they won eight SEC championships and 12 SEC Western Division championships.

In the 2023 season, quarterback Bryce Young and defensive end Will Anderson Jr. and running back Jahmyr Gibbs were the first round picks, with Young being the No. 1 pick, while Anderson and Gibbs were No. 3 and No. 12, respectively.

A total of ten players were selected, with the last being DeMarco Hellams, who was selected in the seventh pick of the seventh round.

Alabama Crimson Tide’s History

One of the most prestigious football programs in NCAA history, the Crimson Tide, has been playing since 1892; they have won 18 national championships, including five titles prior to the poll period and 13 wire-service (AP or coaches) national titles during the poll era.

Paul "Bear" Bryant, a Hall of Fame coach who guided the club to six national titles, was in charge of the team from 1958 to 1982. Then, from 2007 until 2023, Alabama had a great run under head coach Nick Saban that produced six more national titles.

In NCAA Division I, Alabama has 965 official wins (21 wins were vacated, and eight wins and one tie were forfeited). An NCAA record 77 postseason bowl appearances have been made by Alabama, which has won 34 conference championships.

The team holds NCAA records for 46 bowl victories and 36 seasons with 10 or more wins (plus one vacated). The Crimson Tide now lead the SEC West Division with 18 division titles and 15 appearances in the SEC Championship Game.

Alabama has a winning record, against all past or present SEC schools. Alabama is ranked fourth in the all-time final AP Poll appearances by the Associated Press (AP), with 59 through the 2021 season.

From 2009 to 2022, 113 Alabama players were drafted by NFL teams; 41 of them were selected in the first round. Over the last 14 seasons, at least one player from Alabama has been selected in the first round.

Harry Gilmer, a quarterback, was selected first overall by Washington in 1948. He was a member of the Pro Bowl twice, in 1950 and 1952. He played in the league for eight seasons, his final two in Detroit.

Bryce Young was taken as the first overall selection by the Carolina Panthers in 2023. However, given his height of five feet ten inches, there were doubts about whether the 2021 Heisman Trophy winner could succeed in the NFL. However, in his two years at Alabama, he has proven to have Hall of Fame potential.

Joe Namath, another first overall selection by Alabama, went first overall to the Jets in the 1965 AFL Draft because the St. Louis Cardinals, who had selected him 12th overall in the NFL Draft, were unable to sign him. In New York, Namath earned a two-time AFL MVP and guided the Jets to a win in Super Bowl 3 over the widely favoured Colts. In 1985, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
