Jayleen Reed is an American college football player who will be returning to Penn State for his final season of eligibility. Reed started playing high school football at Martin Luther King High School where he won a state championship as a junior in 2018. In his junior season, Reed recorded 119 tackles, eight forced fumbles, and one interception. Reed was rated a four-star recruit by all major sports outlets and was the No.9 prospect in the state of Michigan by 247Sports.

The 6-foot, 209-pound linebacker and safety from Detroit was honored with The Black Athlete of the Year award in football in 2021. He started his collegiate football journey with Penn State despite considering offers from top programs like Cincinnati, Georgia, Florida State, Florida, Nebraska, Michigan State, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and USC among others.

In his freshman season, Reed saw action in eight games and recorded six tackles and a quarterback hurry. The following year as a sophomore, Reed enjoyed additional playing time as he appeared in all 13 games while posting 31 tackles, two tackles for loss, three pass breakups, and a quarterback hurry. His breakthrough campaign was in 2023 when he started in all 13 games after the Nittany defense lost Ji'ayor Brown to the 2023 NFL Draft. Reed was more than ready to fill in the void and made 46 tackles with four tackles for loss, one sack, and a pass breakup. He will be expected to continue with his defensive force in the Penn State secondary this season.

Reed is currently wearing the No.1 jersey for the Penn State Nittany Lions. Prior to the 2023 season, Reed wore the No.7 jersey and will be the first athlete to wear No.1 on defense since 2021.
