Josh Hoover is a quarterback who is currently plying his trade with the TCU Horned Frogs. Hoover began his high school football career at Rockwall-Heath High School where he was named the winner of the 2021 Landry Award, a recognition given to the top high school football athlete in North Texas. He was a three-year recruit and was ranked the No.33 quarterback in the nation. His father, Alex Hoover was a linebacker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Hoover concluded his prep career with 9,593 passing yards and 108 touchdowns in 36 starts. In his final season, he guided the Hawks to the District 10-6A Championship.
Coming out of Heather as the No.72 overall player in the 2022 recruiting class, Hoover started his collegiate football journey with TCU Horned Frogs after flipping his commitment from Indiana. He also held several Division 1 offers from programs like Arkansas State, Houston, Illinois State, Memphis, Nevada, Tulsa and Utah State among others. In his freshman season, Hoover would appear in one game and redshirt the season. Last year as a redshirt sophomore, Hoover started the final six games of the season. He threw for 2,206 yards with 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He would go on to miss the summer camp in 2024 due to an undisclosed injury that required surgery.
