KJ Jefferson, the quarterback for the UCF Knights, was born on May 20, 2001. As a redshirt entering his senior year in 2023, Jefferson completed 190 passes out of 296 attempts for a completion percentage of 64.2% for his former team Arkansas Razorbacks. With 2,107 yards of passing, 19 touchdowns, and eight interceptions, he also suffered 42 sacks as of November. In 2019, Jefferson played as Nick Starkel's backup at Arkansas during his first season. Against LSU, he earned his first career start. He finished the season with 197 yards from 14 of his 31 passes for touchdowns and one interception before redshirting. Jefferson was a redshirt freshman in 2020 who filled in as Feleipe Franks' backup. He participated in five games in all, making one start in lieu of an injured Franks. He completed 20 of 41 passes for 295 yards at the end of the season, with two touchdowns coming from rushing and three from passing.

Jefferson led the Razorbacks to finish the 2021 season with an 8-4 overall record and a 4-4 SEC record while starting quarterback for all 12 games for Arkansas. This included trophy game wins over Texas (in the Battle Line Rivalry), Texas A&M (in the Southwest Classic), LSU (in the Battle for the Boot), and Texas in a non-conference game. As Arkansas' starting quarterback in 2022, Jefferson started 12 of the 13 games. Jefferson was unable to play against LSU due to an injury. Arkansas won their second straight bowl game, defeating Kansas 55-53 in three overtime periods in the Liberty Bowl of 2022. Jefferson was chosen as the Liberty Bowl MVP after he completed 19 of 29 passes for 287 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 130 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries.
