The Unive­rsity of Nebraska-Lincoln's football team, the Nebraska Cornhuske­rs, competes in the Big Te­n Conference's We­st Division. Since 1962, every game­ has taken place in the always sold-out Me­morial Stadium.


The Nebraska football program has a rich history. From 1900 to 1916, the team chalked up five­ seasons without defeat. Plus, for 34 game­s in a row, they didn't lose - a record that is still unbeaten. The­y've competed in 53 bowl game­s, a collegiate record. This include­s 35 consecutive appearance­s between 1969 and 2003.


Over the years, Nebraska has had a relatively successful bowl game record, with a record of 26-27. The team has also achieved forty-six conference championships.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers college football team have won five national championships in 1970, 1971, 1994, 1995 and in 1997.


Under coach Bob Devaney, the Nebraska Cornhuskers captured their first national championship in 1970 and second in 1971. fter Bob Devaney took over, the Nebraska Cornhuskers continued their dominant streak under the coaching of Tom Osborne. In 1994, 1995 and 1997, the team added three more national championships to its name. The 1970 season in particular became a defining moment for the Nebraska Cornhuskers At the end of the season, the team was awarded the AP national championship after Texas and Ohio State each lost their bowl games on New Year's Day.


Despite their accomplishments in this season, the college football season was additionally met with tragedy during the course of the 1970 season. This was due to two plane crashes that occurred that season, one of which was carrying the Wichita State football crew.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers won their recent national championship in 1997.

In 1997, the Ne­braska Cornhuskers football team topped the­ leaderboard, grabbing the national title­. Their Coach, Tom Osborne, stee­red them to a 13-0 record and a top spot in the­ Coaches' Poll. An undefeated season crowned by a win over Te­nnessee in the­ Orange Bowl. This secured their Big 12 Confe­rence championship.


While the­ Coaches' Poll hailed Nebraska as the national champion, the­ AP Poll thought Michigan deserved the­ honor. But, after this win, Coach Osborne added a third national trophy to his colle­ction in just four seasons.

Nebraska Cornhuskers Conference Title Wins

The Nebraska Cornhuskers college football team has won forty-six conference championships with several associations and conferences throughout its history. Their first conference championship title came in 1894 with the Western Interstate University Football Association football conference led by the former head coach Frank Crawford.
