Marcus Freeman is the head coach for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and a former linebacker. Hailing from Huber Heights, Ohio, Freeman attended Wayne High School, where he earned a place on the Parade All-America team. Freeman also competed in track and field events at the high school level. Freeman's collegiate football journey began at Ohio State University, where he played college football as a linebacker. Over his college tenure, he earned recognition as a two-time Second-team All-Big Ten selection.

Transitioning into the coaching realm, Freeman was an assistant coach at the University of Cincinnati, Purdue University, Kent State University, and Ohio State University. In 2021, he assumed the roles of defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Notre Dame before ascending to the position of head coach.
