Caleb Downs is an American football safety for the Ohio Buckeyes. He had an outstanding freshman season with the Alabama Crimson Tide, where he was named the 2023 SEC Freshman of the Year. He attended Mill Creek High School in Hoschton, where he was named the All-American Bowl Player of the Year as a senior and was ranked as one of the top players in the 2023 college football recruiting class and considered as the nation's No. 1 safety prospect.

In July 2022, Downs committed to Alabama. In his debut season, he led the team in tackles with eight and continued to excel throughout the year, culminating in 107 tackles, two interceptions, and recognition as the SEC Freshman of the Year. Downs made the decision to transfer to Ohio State, where he has quickly adapted to the Buckeyes' defense after the retirement of the legendary coach Nick Saban. The safeties coach Matt Guerrieri has expressed immense confidence over Downs. His presence has been a game-changer for the Ohio State defense.

Caleb Downs is from Hoschton, Georgia, a small town located in the northeastern part of the state. Hoschton is part of Jackson County and has a rich history dating back to its founding in the late 19th century. Downs’ family comes from an athletic background. His father, Gary Downs, was a running back at North Carolina State University and went on to have a successful career in the NFL, playing for teams such as the New York Giants and the Atlanta Falcons. His older brother, Joshua Downs, is also an accomplished football player, currently playing as a wide receiver at the University of North Carolina. Additionally, his sister, Kameron, played soccer at Kennesaw State University.

In his freshman year at Alabama, he achieved remarkable success, becoming the first true freshman in program history to lead the team in tackles, amassing 107 stops.
