The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have moved up to the fifth position in the IPL 2023 points table after a last-ball win against the Punjab Kings (KKR) on Monday, May 7. KKR have overtaken three teams in the standings with this win at the Eden Gardens.

Punjab scored 179/7 in their 20 overs, riding on a half-century from captain Shikhar Dhawan. Shahrukh Khan chipped in with a handy cameo of 21 runs off eight balls at the end to help PBKS cross the 175-run mark.

Chasing 180 for a win, KKR lost Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the powerplay, but captain Nitish Rana's 38-ball 51 kept them alive in the run-chase. Andre Russell turned the game in KKR's favor by whacking three sixes in the 19th over of the innings bowled by Sam Curran.

Rinku Singh finished things off in style with a boundary when the Knight Riders needed two runs off the last ball. KKR won the game by five wickets to add two crucial points to their tally.


Mumbai Indians slip to 8th position in IPL 2023 points table

Courtesy of Kolkata Knight Riders' win against the Punjab Kings, the Mumbai Indians (MI) have slipped from sixth to eighth position in the IPL 2023 points table.

KKR jumped from eighth to fifth spot, while RCB dropped from fifth to sixth place. Punjab remained in the seventh position despite the loss against KKR.
