Beginner’s Protector is a polearm that is given as default to new characters who wield one. This weapon was part of the game’s launch and is given to all polearm wielding characters as their first weapon. According to the lore, this polearm is as straight as a flag pole, radiating an imposing presence when swung. This weapon was restricted in Old Mondstat by nobilities because it was so powerful that even a commoner would wield it without training. This instilled the fear of revolution in their hearts.

How to get Beginner’s Protector in Genshin Impact?
Unlike most other weapons, the weapons of this series can not be obtained through wishing on any banner. Instead, you can obtain them by opening Common/Exquisite chests or by checking the right Inspect slots. Alternatively, you can also obtain it by summoning a new 4 Star or 5 Star polearm user and take it from them as this will be their default weapon. You can also buy it from Schulz, Wagner’s apprentice who can be seen hanging around in his shop for 300 mora.

Appearance
Every weapon has two forms, one when it is summoned and one when it is ascended. Upon ascending the weapon receives an upgrade in its design. Beginner’s Protector is in the shape of a typical spear, giving a base for all polearms’ design.
Non-Ascended
Before ascension, the polearm is bland and does not have much to it. The hilt is of a dark blue colour with an x marking on it while the supporting iron part, along with the point, is of a refined white iron ore colour.
Ascended
Upon ascension, the weapon becomes a lot more lustrous. The hilt and the spear start merging, making it almost indistinguishable from each other apart from the shape. The polearm also gets a bit of gold mixed in it, making it lose its glow in return for sturdiness.
Story
In old Mondstadt, spear arts were forbidden by the nobility.
Ostensibly, they claimed that only the sword was worthy of noble stock,
But they say that in reality, it was because the length of polearms could bridge the gaps in training,
Which might grant the unarmed and unschooled commoners a weapon with which to resist.
Trivia
- Beginner’s Protector is the only 1 Star polearm in the game as of now.
FAQs
How much exp is the Beginner’s Protector worth while using it as a fodder?
Beginner’s Protector is worth 600 exp. This is more than an Enhancement Ore which provides 400 exp but less than a Fine Enhancement Ore which is worth 2,000 exp.
Can Beginner’s Protector be refined?
Beginner’s Protector can not be refined, just like the rest of the weapons belonging to this series. This weapon does not have any passives as well, making it pointless to refine it.
How do you get Beginner’s Protector in Genshin?
Beginner’s Protector is fairly common in Genshin Impact. You can obtain them from certain inspection points or from opening common or exquisite chests from all over Teyvat. If you want a guaranteed Beginner’s Protector, you can buy it from Schulz in Mondstat for 300 Mora.
Final Thoughts
Beginner’s Protector is the only 1 Star polearm available in the game. This does not make it special in any way, but rather serves the purpose of showing how much a weapon affects the gameplay of a character. This weapon is incredibly ineffective as it does not have any passives, secondary stats, and can’t even be levelled up beyond Level 70. While it does cost much less resources to level up, it is still a waste of resources and is not to be leveled up if you care about giving your characters better weapons.
