Blue Protocol is an upcoming free-to-download and play anime-style MMORPG by Bandai Namco and Amazon Games. It's clear who Blue Protocol's target audience is by looking at other popular free-to-play games like Genshin Impact and Tower of Fantasy. It's a forthcoming multiplayer online action role-playing game that vividly brings anime to life with a captivating plot.

Blue Protocol Plot

Blue Protocol occurs within the fictitious land of Regnas which is on the verge of annihilation and it takes place 2,000 years in the distant future, where humanity is in an era of conflict and needs to be saved by the gamer and their allies. Along with other characters, the player's (customizable) character embarks on a journey to learn their origins and, in doing so, decide the fate of the Regnas.

Like any good MMORPG, Blue Protocol has a compelling story that will keep players immersed for hours as they try to discover the "dark secret" threatening Regnas. Furthermore, in an interview with thegamer.com, Mike Zadorojny outlined three aspects that set Blue Protocol apart from its rivals: "a seamless" open world, with no need to party up for specific instances; extensive character customization and avatar design; and rich, mechanically-dense combat."

Blue Protocol will be a massively multiplayer online role-playing game with a focus on narrative and plenty of single-player content. According to Blue Protocol’s franchise lead Mike Zadorojny, “if you just want to go experience the storyline by yourself, it’s something you can totally do.” But since it's still an MMO, there will be lots of chances to work together with online friends to take on traditional team mechanics like raids and dungeons.

Because it will presumably be released on consoles, Blue Protocol was created with controllers in mind first, unlike other MMORPGS. Amazon Games assured the world that while a keyboard and mouse will function just fine, a controller will provide a superior gaming experience.

Will Blue Protocol be free-to-play?

It's understandable that Blue Protocol's creators would choose to replicate that free-to-play model given that the game appears to be embodying the success of titles like Genshin Impact and Tower of Fantasy. However, everyone is aware that nothing is truly free, so they are planning to monetize in a number of ways:

  • There will be a Season Pass.

  • There will be in-game microtransactions available in the Regnas Store that can be bought with Rose Orbs, the game's premium currency. Given that Amazon Games has made an effort to distance itself from pay-to-win mechanics in both New World and their Western release of Lost Ark, it appears likely that the majority of these microtransactions will be centered on cosmetics.

  • Since characters are customized by the player rather than being fixed by the game's designers, there won't be a gacha.

  • For Lost Ark, Amazon Games previously offered Founders Packs that included pre-order bonuses like access to Closed Betas.

What platforms will Blue Protocol be released on?

Blue Protocol will be made available globally via Steam for PC as well as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. This was announced by the game's publisher, Amazon Games, and its creators, Bandai Namco Online and Bandai Namco Studios. The game will undergo a closed beta test on PC in the first half of 2023 before going on sale for free in the second half of the year.

When will Blue Protocol be released?

Blue Protocol is scheduled for worldwide release in the second half of 2023. Unfortunately, Bandai Namco and Amazon Games have not yet provided the precise date of its release. The game is currently in its infancy and is only accessible in Japan. However, the Blue Protocol release window is in the latter part of 2023 because Bandai Namco stated as much in a blog post.
