Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Release Date, System Requirements & More

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is a first-person shooter that is developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision, which will serve as the nineteenth installment in the Call of Duty series. The franchise has received annual releases since 2005 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will serve as a sequel to 2019’s Modern Warfare. This isn’t, as many believed, a reboot of the 2009 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It is a new game.

The Activision publication is set to improve upon the previous generation’s gameplay, gunplay, advanced AI and a lot more in order to give players a far more immersive experience. It will also feature a campaign that returns with Task Force 141 including Sgt. John 'Soap' Mactavish and Captain John Price. Not only that, Modern Warfare 2 will connect to Warzone 2.0 to hand gamers a brand new play space and sandbox mode.

What is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s story?

The story picks up from where the 2019 reboot entry, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, left off and features several favorites and returning characters. This includes Captain John Price, Sergeant Kyle "Gaz" Garrick, Lieutenant Simon "Ghost" Riley, Sergeant John "Soap" MacTavish and a few others. Not only that, there are three new characters including Mexican Special Forces Colonel Alejandro Vargas as a new member of Task Force 141.

The game is set three years after Price created Task Force 141 and revolves around the team’s attempts to quell further escalation and combat the Las Almas drug cartel and a terrorist organization.

Modern Warfare 2 officially releases on the 28th of October, but Activision has made it clear that any fans who digitally pre-order either the standard or the Vault edition can play its campaign more than a week before the official release.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Vault Edition

The nineteenth edition of the Call of Duty series can be pre-purchased right now as pre-orders have been live and active since the end of August. It allows gamers to pick between the standard edition ($70 on the PlayStation store) or the Vault Edition ($100 on the PlayStation store).

Both versions allowed gamers Early Access to the Open Beta and they also allow those who pre-order the digital version a chance to play the campaign a week before its official October 28th release date.

Red Team 141

Pre-ordering the Vault Edition grants access to four classic Multiplayer Operators: Ghost, Farah, Price, and Soap. They will all be outfitted in custom-made masked costumes based on the legendary character Ghost.

At the launch of Modern Warfare 2, Vault Edition purchasers will receive Season 1 of the Battle Pass and 50 Tier Skips. As a result, they will be able to unlock a majority of the Operators as soon as Season 1 is released, which means more new items. After Season One, players who purchase the Vault Edition can also apply the free Battle Pass and Tier Skips to the current season.

Players who buy the Modern Warfare 2 Vault Edition from the in-game store in Warzone, Vanguard, Black Ops Cold War, or Modern Warfare will receive 10 hours of Double XP Tokens and 10 hours of Double Weapon XP Tokens for use in Modern Warfare 2.

Ghost Legacy pack

Vault edition owners will be able to play as Ghost in Warzone following their pre-order. Not only that, players will also receive 20+ free items for Modern Warfare (2019) and Warzone. It will include numerous Ghost Operator skins such as Jawbone, Last Breath, Mandible, Ghosted, Reckoner, Dark Vision, and others. When players pre-purchase the Vault Edition, they will gain access to 10 Assault Rifle Weapon Blueprints including the Oscar Mike, K2, and Kingly Splendor.
