Destiny 2's story has grown in scope and quality in the years since its release, a trend that looks set to continue with the Lightfall expansion in 2023. The Light and Darkness Saga, which has been building over the last decade, is set to conclude with the next expansion, The Final Shape. The Final Shape promises an intriguing verdict to the story of the Guardians and their battle against The Darkness, as well as revealing a few secrets pertaining to the mysterious Vex and the Traveller.

What is the plot of Destiny 2: The Final Shape?

Cayde appears to be returning to the story in The Final Shape, according to a teaser released at the PlayStation Showcase in 2023. The world received a little preview displaying Ikora talking to Cayde while unveiling the August 22, 2023 reveal showcase. This is a huge twist, but many people believe Cayde is still alive because of the wispy energy surrounding him, but he is unquestionably on the other side of The Final Shape with Ikora.

This is also rumored to be where The Witness has gone, but gamers will have to wait until the August showcase to find out more. Furthermore, it appears that The Final Shape will see gamers pursuing the Witness into the Traveller itself for a final confrontation, following the events of Lightfall and Season of Defiance.

However, little else is known at this time. But as the final expansion in The Light and Darkness Saga, The Final Shape ought to wrap up the story that has been building over the decade between the release of Destiny in 2014 and the release of Destiny 2 The Final Shape in 2024.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape gameplay

Because Destiny 2 The Final Shape is still quite a ways off, there is no information on any new gameplay mechanics or characteristics that will be included with the expansion. Given that this is supposed to be the final chapter of The Light and Darkness Saga, many fans are hoping Bungie has something big in store for this final chapter.

What platforms will Destiny 2: The Final Shape be released on?

It hasn't been confirmed completely, but Destiny 2: The Final Shape is expected to follow in the footsteps of previous expansions, which means it will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. While Bungie was acquired by Sony in January 2022, the two sides have expressed a desire for Destiny 2 to remain cross-platform.

However, while Bungie is yet to formally reveal the different platforms on which The Final Shape will be released, fans can expect it to be available on nearly all of the systems on which Destiny 2 is currently available, with the exception of Google Stadia.

Google made an unexpected announcement that it would be closing down its cloud-based gaming services on January 18, 2023. Bungie has since revealed that it is actively discussing the future of Destiny 2 Stadia players and will release more information when it is ready.

When will Destiny 2: The Final Shape be released?

Bungie has traditionally spaced expansion releases by a year, so it is expected that Destiny 2: The Final Shape will be released in February 2024. The Witch Queen was released in February 2022, and Lightfall was released in February 2023, so unless there are delays, The Final Shape will follow suit.
