Atreus is roughly 14 years old in God of War Ragnarok. God of War Ragnarok, the sequel to God of War (2018), is highly anticipated by many gamers. Not only because of the imagined Ragnarok scenario but also to see how far into the future the characters have progressed. Atreus, in particular, has caught the imagination of many fans, with some even making art speculating how an elderly Atreus will appear in the Ragnarok-set sequel. The new game unfolds three years following the events of the previous title, at the end of Fimbulwinter.

Who is Atreus?

After the events of God of War 3, Kratos moved to ancient Scandinavia, to the Norse realm of Midgard. This was where he met Laufey the Just, also known as Faye and the two eventually fell in love and got married, having a child about 30 years after they met. While Faye had planned to name their son Loki, Kratos managed to convince her to name him Atreus after a Spartan soldier he greatly admired.

However, it’s only during the events of God of War (2018), that Atreus’ true origin as 1/4 mortal, 1/4 God and 1/2 frost-giant is revealed, as Laufey was a Frost Giant from Jötunheim.

How old is Atreus in God of War Ragnarok?

During the trailer for God of War Ragnarok and in the lore released since, it has been said that Fimbulwinter will lead to Ragnarok. Not only that, Mimir, other lore and Norse Mythology tells us that Fimbulwinter is an event that will take place for three years before the start of Ragnarok, which is when God of War Ragnarok takes place.

Thus, since it is known that Atreus is 11 years old in God of War (2018), it means that Kratos’ son is around 14 years old before the start of God of War Ragnarok.

How old is Kratos in God of War Ragnarok?

While it is comparatively easier to date Atreus, placing Kratos’ exact age is far tougher. The former Greek God of War looks to be in his early 50s in God of War (2018) but the events of the game take place approximately a millennium after the events of God of War 3. Additionally, in Tyr’s temple, there is an artifact that highlights Kratos’ time as the Greek God of War and it is said that the temple was asleep for around 150 years.

This makes Kratos anywhere between 200 years old to just over 1000 years. That goes with the lore behind the character as his aging process has been diluted because of his status as a demi-god and his time spent as a God. Not only that, the fact that he has Hades, Zeus and Ares’ souls inside him might also play a part in slowing down his aging process.

What does Atreus look like in God of War (2018)?

Atreus is a teenage child in God of War (2018) with red hair and a scarred pale face. He also has a faint scar on his face similar to Kratos' Deimos, which could be a symbol of greatness. He possesses mild freckling and piercing blue eyes, and he typically adorns in leathers and fur hides. He also wears a sash around his waist that is strikingly close to Kratos's loincloth from his time in Greece; it is red with golden patterns around it.

During God of War Ragnarok, Atreus is around 14 years old but has gotten taller, looming even above Brok and Sindri, with a broader build, and a deeper voice.
