Asgard, the legendary abode of the Norse Gods, plays a significant role in God of War Ragnarok. The series merely hinted at it, but with the release of the current title, players will be able to explore this realm for the first time, albeit only three times. However, there are no obvious means to open the route to the realm at first glance, leading many to speculate that it could be a side quest transporting them to Asgard, though this changes approximately halfway through the game.

Can Kratos get to Asgard in God of War?

There are several realms you may unlock in God of War, so it stands to reason that Kratos would visit Odin and his friends in Asgard. However, when Kratos is in the travel room in Tyr's Tower, the game allows you to select Asgard, but it will claim that it is locked. Unfortunately, any realm that states "Odin has prohibited travel to this realm, the trip rune will never operate" means he can't get there.

How to get to Asgard in God of War Ragnarok?

Unfortunately, Asgard is not an explorable area, hence there are no collectibles to be found there. Players will only be able to enter this realm via story missions because it is not an explorable location.

  • The first time fans will be able to visit Asgard is through a quest called "The Runaway", which players will be able to unlock after going around halfway through the main storyline. This assignment, as expected, is also a part of the main plot and it is started after players return to Sindri's house following Kratos' visit to Vanaheim.

  • The second occasion is during a quest linked to the main plot, when Atreus decides to return to Asgard following the "Creatures of Prophecy” mission.

  • The third and final time is in "the Path's" last story bound quest, when Kratos, Freya, Atreus, and their company travel to Asgard to confront Odin, his army of Einherjar, and the rest of the All-Father's allies.

Is Asgard open to visit during the open-world sections of the game?

Unfortunately, Asgard is a story-bound place and hence only accessible during those times. It means there are no collectibles, goods, or extras to grab except for chests and supplies on occasion.

FAQs

Q. Can Kratos visit Vanaheim in God of War Ragnarok?

A. Yes, Vanaheim is one of the Nine Realms visited by Kratos in God of War Ragnarok, and it has a large number of realms that players can explore throughout the game. It is one of the first places you can visit during the main quest, and it also contains a plethora of alternative side regions to explore.

Q. Can Kratos go to all the realms in God of War Ragnarok?

A. While God of War (2018) did an outstanding job of examining Norse mythology, some gamers felt it lacked depth. That's because only six of the nine realms were open for visitors until God of War Ragnarok, as Kratos and his allies can, and do, visit all nine realms.
