Minecraft Dungeons is enjoying a resurgence at the moment, thanks to its discounted price for Minecraft's 15th anniversary. This has led to many new players diving into the action RPG spinoff for the first time. The action RPG spinoff is generally pretty forgiving and allows players to exercise creativity when creating builds, but applying a few basic tips can give newcomers proficiency that some players didn't have when the game launched.

Five tips worth keeping in mind for Minecraft Dungeons beginners

1) Avoid Using Pet Summons

While it can be fun to equip gear that allows players to summon pets in Minecraft Dungeons, there are simply better options for a player's artifact slots. The Deathcap Mushroom is a perfect example of this, as it allows players to move faster and cleave through enemies easier, which can be a huge help on higher difficulties when escaping compromising situations.

Even the best pets in the game won't last long at higher difficulties, so they lose any upsides they have quickly. Players are often better off sticking to other artifacts to round out their build, as their pet is likely to get killed quickly.

2) Don't Pick Up Gear from the Blacksmith

While the blacksmith isn't terrible for supplementing a player's build in a pinch, the fact is that players are better off saving their emeralds and heading back into the dungeon. On average, gear dropped from enemies and loot chests in dungeons are of higher quality than what the blacksmith offers.

Buying the occasional gear piece from the blacksmith is harmless, but relying on it too heavily is a waste of emeralds when players can grind in dungeons to find better gear, especially at higher difficulties.

3) Wear the Highest Level Gear Possible

Even if it doesn't perfectly suit a player's build in Minecraft Dungeons, there are benefits to wearing gear with the highest possible item level. Specifically, the game's loot rolls and quality are tied to the player's equipped gear. The higher the item level, the higher the quality of loot drops.

While players should certainly stick to their builds as they climb difficulties, it doesn't hurt to equip higher-level gear on occasion just to secure high-end loot rolls, even if they don't always pan out as expected.

4) Prioritize Unlocking Maps to the Highest Possible Difficulty

As is the custom with many dungeon-delving games, the more difficult the stages players are taking on, the better loot they'll get. Since this is the case, Minecraft Dungeons beginners should prioritize unlocking the highest possible difficulty levels for each stage on the world map. Even if they can't beat them right away, they can save time unlocking them and dive in once they're geared.

Though this process does mean players will have to battle several boss stages, the effort is worth taking care of early instead of waiting.

5) If a Build Works, Don't be Shy

During the height of Minecraft Dungeons' popularity, there was plenty of discussion on the best builds for players to use. However, the game is no longer officially supported by Mojang, so the concept of an ever-evolving meta has essentially been put to bed. With that having been said, if a build is working for a player of any skill level, they should stick with it until they decide to change.

Chasing the largest damage numbers and poring over build guides can be fun, but beginners can find the game a bit boring if they're just chasing the best possible builds. Dungeons encourages players to experiment and find what works for their playstyle, and this should be emphasized for new players to ensure they keep having a great time as they progress.
