David Benavidez v Oleksandr Gvozdyk: Weigh-in

David Benavidez is a 28-year-old professional boxer from America who is a former two-time WBC super middleweight champion from 2017 to 2018 and 2019 to 2020. Additionally, American is currently the WBC interim light heavyweight champion, as of January 2025. The undefeated boxer is also a former NABF junior light heavyweight champion. David Benavidez became the WBC super middleweight champion for the first time on September 8, 2017, when he went up against Ronald Gavril for the vacant title. The bout took place at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Paradise, Nevada, United States, and ended up in a split decision win for Benavidez over Gavril. Benavidez had an immediate rematch against Ronald Gavril for the tile defense on February 17, 2018, and won the bout via a unanimous decision this time.

However, things did not favor the champion for much longer as he tested positive for cocaine through his urine sample. The WBC immediately stripped Benavidez of the super middleweight title, putting him under a four-month suspension. Post-suspension, David Benavidez made his return on March 16, 2019, where he had a second-round TKO win against J’Leone Love. David Benavidez had his second shot at the WBC super middleweight title on September 28, 2019, against the champion Anthony Dirrel. Benavidez won the bout via TKO at 1:39 in the ninth round of the ten-rounder and became the WBC super middleweight champion for the second time. Nevertheless, Benavidez lost his title again during a weigh-in prior to his matchup against Roamer Alexis Angulo on August 15, 2020.
