Brazilian mixed martial artist Pedro Munhoz competes in the bantamweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship as of August 2023. He was the Resurrection Fighting Alliance's previous bantamweight champion and is currently ranked 10th in the UFC bantamweight rankings.
Munhoz has been a professional since 2009. He started out by participating in regional competitions in his native São Paulo, Brazil, before relocating to the US in 2011. After defeating Jeff Curran in 2013, Munhoz, then-undefeated fighter, was crowned the bantamweight champion of the Resurrection Fighting Alliance.
In 2014, he successfully defended his title against Billy Daniels by submission in the opening round. Munhoz had signed on with the UFC by February 2014.
As a last-minute replacement for an injured Francisco Rivera, Munhoz made his professional debut at the UFC on February 22, 2014, when he took on Raphael Assunço at UFC 170. At last, Assunço won a unanimous decision over Munhoz.
Munhoz defeated Jerrod Sanders in a match at UFC Fight Night 54 in 2014; however, he later tested positive for high testosterone levels. Munhoz's camp received documentation after three months, but anti-doping expert Paul Scott found that his testosterone level was not elevated at 850 ng/mL (the limit).
Regardless, Munhoz acknowledged taking two UFC-approved supplements, which may have increased his testosterone but not to an unsafe level. Due to exogenous testosterone metabolites, Munhoz was given a one-year suspension in November 2015, and his victory was reclassified as a no-contest.
On July 2, 2022, Munhoz and Sean O'Malley squared off at UFC 276. Due to an unintentional eye poke that prevented Munhoz from continuing, the second round was ruled a no contest. Following the fight, Munhoz made his medical history public, revealing that he had a corneal abrasion across his right eye.
In his most recent fight, on April 15, 2023, Munhoz and Chris Gutiérrez squared off at the UFC on ESPN 44, and Munhoz received a unanimous decision victory.
