Petr Yan is a prominent professional mixed martial artist competing in the bantamweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He has a decorated career, where he has reigned as the bantamweight champion of the world’s leading professional mixed martial arts promotion.


Petr Yan started as a dominant fighter and initially registered five consecutive victories before suffering his first professional loss in his career. He was outclassed by Magomed Magomedov for the first time in his career at ACB 32 by a split decision. Yan recovered from the setback and went on a rampage, amassing a record of 9 wins and 1 loss before joining the UFC.


Once in the UFC, Petr Yan performed aggressively and kept climbing the ladder toward title contention in the bantamweight division of the promotion. He got his shot at UFC 251 as he locked horns with Jose Aldo for the vacant UFC bantamweight title. Yan defeated him by a fifth-round TKO to win the championship.


His title reign ended in a highly controversial DQ loss, which Petr Yan suffered at 259 against Aljamain Sterling. After his title loss, Yan fought four times and ended up losing three fights in the process. He is now scheduled to face Song Yadong at UFC 299 on March 10, 2024, in a bantamweight showdown at Kesaya Center, Miami, Florida, USA.
