He could not step inside the ring for almost 17 months till early 2024.

While talking to Fight Hub TV, Ortz Jr. mentioned how devastating it was mentally to not fight for these many months. He also spoke briefly of breaking down and thinking that he would have to stop boxing at that point.

However, Vergil Ortiz Jr. being a wondrous athlete, came past all those adversities and made his comeback inside the ring, which was also more or less of a statement. For his comeback fights, he faced Fredrick Lawson and Thomas Dulorme in early 2024 within three months gap and won both bouts via first-round TKO and KO, respectively.
