Cowboys owner Jerry Jones provides update on Odell Beckham Jr pursuit

Could wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. be back on the Dallas Cowboys radar this offseason?
Could wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. be back on the Dallas Cowboys' radar this offseason?

The Dallas Cowboys were one of the teams the free-agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. visited in the fall. He had been rehabbing his knee after tearing his ACL in Super Bowl LVI last February. The wide receiver ended up not signing with a team during the season and will now turn his attention towards the 2023 season now that he is healthy.

So, are the Dallas Cowboys still an option for Beckham this offseason? It appears that they just may be. Dallas parted ways with offensive coordinator Kellen Moore earlier this week and will try to take a new approach next season. That starts with head coach Mike McCarthy calling the plays on offense.

According to Dallas Cowboys writer Clarence Hill Jr., team owners Jerry and Stephen Jones plan to continue their recruitment of Beckham. Hill tweeted on Wednesday that talks will resume in hopes of signing the wide receiver this offseason.

This comes just one day after Beckham released a video of him training. OBJ appears to be running routes without any hesitation due to the knee injury. Although he has said that he is not at 100 percent yet, it appears that he is definitely the closest he has been to getting back onto the field.

OBJ's progress, along with the Joneses being adamant on making a push to sign him, fans shouldn't be surprised if they get a deal done when free agency opens in March.

Will Zeke Elliott return to the Cowboys in 2023?

There's no question that Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has had a decrease in production the last few seasons. But he and fellow running back Tony Pollard have been quite the dynamic duo this season despite Elliott not reaching 1,000 rushing yards this season.

If he plays for the Cowboys next season, the team will have to pay him $10.9 million, which will also be a $16 million cap hit. While speaking about the team's future heading into the offseason, Stephen and Jerry Jones also expressed interest in keeping Elliott.

Stephen said that he didn't see a drop in Elliott's production this past season and that he didn't expect one moving forward either.

In 2022, started all but one game that he played, rushing for 876 yards on 231 rushing attempts. He averaged just 3.8 yards per rush, which is down from the 4.2 he had the previous season. He rushed for 12 touchdowns on the season.
