Troy Aikman has been one of the most successful analysts in the NFL broadcast booth for over two decades. The former Dallas Cowboys star finished his first season of Monday Night Football with longtime partner Joe Buck.

In a recent interview with Dan Patrick on his show, the former Dallas Cowboys star was asked about his legacy in the NFL. Aikman was candid, asserting that he was fine with how his NFL career turned out.

Aikman said:

"No one's ever thought I was the greatest. So this is really easy for me. This is you know, I don't. It's never been that important to me on where I've placed in the list of great quarterbacks. I'm proud of my career.
"Joe Montana was in the league when I came into the league. I watched him when I was in high school in college, I've always felt for the longest time that he was the greatest to have ever done it."

Troy Aikman also spoke on being in the booth, calling quarterback Tom Brady's fifth Super Bowl victory in 2017.

Aikman added:

"I called the game when Tom Brady won his fifth Super Bowl. And I said at that time, I don't think we can dispute it. Now this is the greatest that's ever done. And then he's gone on of course, and then really solidified that opinion."

The former UCLA Bruins star is still one of the best in the broadcasting booth. However, he was also one of the best NFL quarterbacks of his era.

Troy Aikman had one of the most successful careers as a quarterback in NFL history

Aikman was drafted number one overall in the 1989 draft by the Cowboys, which was also Jerry Jones' first NFL Draft as the owner. He struggled in his rookie season, starting 11 games and throwing for 1,749 yards, nine touchdowns and 18 interceptions.

The Covina, California, native made his first playoff start for Dallas in the 1992 season.

That season, Troy Aikman led the Cowboys to a 52-10 victory in Super Bowl XXVII over the Buffalo Bills. He threw for 273 yards and four touchdowns in the game, winning the Super Bowl XXVII MVP honors. The Cowboys made it back to the Super Bowl the following season, defeating the Bills by a 30-13 score in Super Bowl XXVIII.

Troy Aikman won his third and final Super Bowl as the Cowboys beat the Pittsburgh Steelers by a 27-17 margin in Super Bowl 30. Overall, the star quarterback threw for 689 yards, five touchdowns and an interception in his three Super Bowl appearances.

He played 12 seasons in the NFL, throwing for 32,942 yards, 165 touchdowns and 141 interceptions. In 1996, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Without question, Aikman is also on his way to a Hall of Fame career in broadcasting.
